What is the WordPress Post Slug?

Success for Your Blog is asking for the best blooging tip and here is one of mine.  I have never used the Post Slug feature in WordPress, so I decided to do a little research. The post slug is how WordPress cleans up your post title, IF you are using the date and name based Permalinks. Your post title is not allowed to have commas, quotes, apostrophes and other non-HTML characters. For example, if your post was titled “I’d love to blog but can’t”, it will be changed to read “id-love-to-blog-but-cant”.

You can also change the post slug if you wish. Let’s say I want the post title to really be “love-to-blog” since I think this phrase will do much better in search engine results than the originally title. I can manually type in the Post Slug in the Post Slug box at the right. For this post, I typed in “wordpress-post-slug” since I think that phrase will search better than my actually title.

If you really want to find the best titles and keywords for your posts, you must begin using keyword tools as well. Look for future posts on popular keyword tools and how to use them.

  1. Now that was something that I didn’t know but can certainly use! I wondered if there was a way to shorten the hugely long URLs that WordPress gave me. Thanks so much for sharing!

  2. This is a nice tip.. Find a low dense keyword and make it as your post slug..
